General interest

My main research interest is the role of language and communication in the learning and teaching of mathematics, but I have also studied issues in relation to belief-research and teachers' professional development. My main expertise is mathematics education at secondary and tertiary levels, but I have also studied primary level.

Together with Ewa Bergqvist, I am the leader of a research group that focuses on issues of language and communication for knowledge and learning in mathematics.

As a professor of mathematics education at Mid Sweden University, my research primarily connected to ongoing research at Umeå University.

Research at Linköping University, 2001--2006

As a doctoral student at Linköping University, my research focused on learning by reading, when students on their own or together with other students try to understand a mathematical text, and learn something from it.
